10 Dec The importance of spending one-to-one time with each of your children
In today’s world parents are very busy people and for some parents the only one to one time they spend with their child is when they’re driving them to an activity. You don’t need me to tell you this isn’t the kind of time that’s going to enrich your relationship with your child and lead to the family life of your dreams.
Here’s an example:-
Mary and Peter provide their kids with lots of stimulation and activities outside the home. They’re an affluent family and some would consider the kids to be quite privileged. But this is a family in crisis and Big Mistake Number Three is that the children rarely get one to one time with either of their parents.
Family life can be very hectic whether both parents work or not. The combination of busy parents and several children in a family all with their own activities frequently leaves parents feeling little more than a taxi service. Time that is spent with children, even while they’re still at primary school is often focused around spelling, reading and it’s basically an extension of the school day.
Children compete for parental attention
Children often feel in competition for their parent’s attention and because each child is different what suits one child doesn’t always suit the other. It’s easy to accept that children have different sized appetites but harder to accept that one child is showing signs of needing more attention when it seems as though each child is getting equal attention. There’s no substitute for quality time with your children really getting to know what makes them tick. Keep it a screen free time for best impact.
Challenging behaviour in children is frequently an indication they need more attention. Make sure its positive attention because kids have a habits of creating hazard situations if that’s the only way they can get their needs met. If your child’s behaviour is something you’re struggling with right now, I’m here to help you.
I’d love to hear your comments.
